A fairly extensive family-run domaine, based in Verdigny and with 38 hectares spread across 6 communes on some of the appellation’s finest land. Andre Dezat was one of the appellation’s characters, and able to recall the difficulties that the growers endured here prior to Sancerre attaining its current popularity, never a bad thing when success can so often be accompanied by complacency. The domaine is now run by his grandson Firmin, who has finished his studies in Tours and a stage working with Cuvaison in California. Always an exceptional source, the current regime has been incrementally improving the viticulture and winemaking, working towards organic certification.
The white Sancerres are firm and steely, with excellent ripeness and minerality, and great typicite. The red, from a small plot of Pinot Noir, is one of the finest from the region, soft, elegant, with considerable grace. The Rose, a Pinot saignee, is likewise soft, elegant, charming and yet serious, and remains ever popular amongst our customers.
