Brothers Richard and Stephane Martin exploit 26 hectares in no less than 60 parcels in Davayé and St.Veran, of which they are one of the most important producers, and Pouilly-Fuissé, and are based in the village of Davayé, close to the outcrop of Solutré. They took over the estate, which had been founded by their father, in 1992. They have practiced organic techniques since 2003, the vines commencing conversion in 2006, and the wines have been certified as organic since the 2010 vintage. There is clearly a tremendous respect for the environment here, and a fundamental belief that outstanding wine is made in the vineyard.

The Macon Davayé, which comes from 5 plots, has a pale yellow colour shot through with hints of silver, and is a beautifully authentic Macon, both balanced and seductive. The St.Veran ‘En Buis’ comes from a single east-facing plot, and has aromas of spring flowers, minerals and mint, with a great purity of fruit, whilst the ‘En Pommard’ comes from 0.7 hectares of densely planted mid-slope limestone, and displays notes of white fruit, citrus and subtle oak.

These are exceptional wines which receive a hugely positive response from all who taste them.

“Organic vine growing is a means for us to emphasise the terroirs, and also to respect the environment.” Stephane Martin.
